Does iShear measure the risk of tissue deformation?
No it doesn’t. All the different types of shear influence the risk of tissue deformation. iShear only measures one type of shear force: Total Shear Force (TSF).
Can I use iShear as a product selection tool?
iShear is purely developed to evaluate a complete seating system. It’s the combination of the products in the seating system and their settings that influences the amount of Total Shear Force (TSF).
What does the measured value in the iShear app tell me?
The first measurement is the baseline measurement. The goal is to get the lowest shear possible, while maintaining functionality and comfort for the client. Keep in mind that less shear is better.
The iShear display shows a rotation in left and right, why?
- The client has an asymmetric pelvis
- The client has an asymmetric back
- iShear might be incorrectly installed in the wheelchair
Why do we now need to use a display instead of the app to use the iShear?
We switched to a display to make measurements even easier. You are now not dependent on a WIFI/internet connection and therefore don’t have to use public wifi networks. Also, with an app it is constantly necessary to perform updates and keep developing the app and that is no longer necessary.
Can I use the display without an internet connection?
Yes you can. There is no need for an internet connection at all.
When I select a saved file, I can select a file but it doesn't open.
To open a saved file, you need to connect the display to a desktop or a laptop.
What is the current Android version of the iShear app?

Does the app support Android 8 (Oreo), Android 9 (Pie) and or Android Q?
Yes. The app has been updated to version 1.2.3 on February 10 2020. You should not have any trouble using the app when your device is using one of those Android versions. Android Pie is launched in August 2019 and currently the latest Android version.

The app crashes shortly after opening it. What can I do?
Please check if you are using the latest version of the app (1.2.3 February 10 2020).
And check if your Bluetooth is on, even if you are only planning to view your saved files and you are not going to connect to an iShear.
We’ve found that the app is most stable when the Bluetooth function is activated.

I can't have a single measurement. Help!
Please check your app permissions. Go to: Settings > Apps > iShear > Persmissions (the order may vary per Android device) and allow Storage. Restart the app and you should be able to save your measurements.
In the connection screen my mobile device doesn't see the iShear
Please check that the iShear device is turned on and the blue led is blinking. Also check that Bluetooth on your device is enabled. If so, verify that your phone has Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). In order to this you can download a BLE checker in the Play store. If your device has BLE pleae check your app permissions. Go to: Settings > Apps > iShear > Persmissions (the order may vary per Android device) and allow Location. Next to this you should also Allow Location on Android level.
When trying to connect with iShear my mobile device askes for a password. Where can I find this?
Setting up the connection between a mobile device and iShear doesn’t require a password. Make sure that you connect the iShear and the app within the iShear app itself. Do not try to connect within the Android Bluetooth screen, doing this will ask for the password.
The iShear app doesn't measure anymore
If your iShear did measure before and suddenly it has stopped doing this then this might be caused by having old firmware on the iShear. Make sure that you have downloaded the latest app from the app store and that you have updated the firmware on the iShear. Please visit the software and firmware page for a step by step guide to update the firmware.
If updating the firmware still doesn’t fix the problem then please contact us.
The iShear doesn't measure anymore
If your iShear did measure before and suddenly it has stopped doing this then this might be caused by using the iOS app. Unfortunately the iShear doesn’t make a connection anymore with the app.
